About the Dalmatian This is the breed of dog that everyone calls the Firehouse dogs. Always known for their white coat with black spots and perched on a fire truck. They are an energetic dog who need lots of exercise. They are good with older children but too playful for toddlers and young children. The Dalmation is very intelligent and needs to be constantly stimulated. They are loyal and have a kind nature. Dalmations were named in the 18th century after Dalmatia a region in Croatia. They originated as working dogs and used for many tasks like herding sheep, hunting rodents or in a pack, and working as a retriever and bird dog. A firehouse dog was rooted in the fact that the Dalmation was a coach dog that ran with coaches chasing animals and people out of the way of the coach. Then they were used as guard dogs protecting a firehouse and it equipment from a rival firehouse. Some Dalmations have a tendency towards hereditary deafness as is the case with a mostly white or all white dog. They gained a lot of popularity in 1956 when the book The Hundred and One Dalmations came out and after the Disney films based on the book Advertise your site or business here..
